About Home Backup Plan
What this site is
Home Backup Plan is an independent research project. Its purpose is to compile backup power information from primary sources — manufacturer installation manuals, utility sizing guides, government standards, and published test reports — and present it in a form that is useful for US homeowners deciding how to protect their homes during power outages.
The site does not sell products. It has no manufacturer relationships that influence which products are covered or how they are described.
How pages are made
Research on this site is assisted by software, including AI tools, to locate and extract data from manufacturer documents. Numbers extracted this way are checked against the original source document by a person before they are published. If a figure cannot be verified against a primary document, it is not published.
Each data point carries a numbered citation with the document title, publisher, and the date it was accessed. You can follow the link in any source entry to verify the original document yourself.

What we don't do
- We do not accept payment for coverage, rankings, or recommendations.
- We do not publish retailer spec listings as fact. When a retailer listing differs from the manufacturer's own document, we note the discrepancy.
- We do not conduct physical product tests. All performance figures come from manufacturer documents or published third-party tests, with the test condition stated.
How we make money
The site earns money from display advertising and, where links are marked, from affiliate commissions when a reader purchases through one of those links.
